Setting xchat as default irc application in windows

Hi everybody,
  how can I set xchat as default irc application in windows? I would like it
to start when I click a url like irc://server/channel as mIRC does.
I tried manipulating CLASSES/irc in the registry, where mIRC put its own
parameter but I had no luck.
mIRC does the trick, and I think this should be possible also with xchat
because using the command-line argument everything works.

Any suggestion?
