All too frequent crashing of input methods

I've played around a bit with im-ja 0.4 / 0.5 and kinput2 on X-Chat now, 
and it seems that whenever I deactivate im-ja by selecting the "Default" 
input method or use kinput2 for more than 30 seconds, X-Chat just 
crashes. What could be causing this? im-ja works fine in gjiten 2, and 
kinput2 doesn't crash THAT often in other apps. What gives? I'd like to 
be able to use Japanese text in X-Chat.
