The Windows way is Alt-F4; Ctrl-W came from somewhere else. (Mac?)
For what it's worth, I'd rather be "xchat 1.x user" friendly than
"Gnome user" friendly, but then I'm biased. More generally, I find it
amazing that Gnome 2 abandons useful and popular features and
characteristics with which real, existing gtk1/gnome1 users are familiar,
in the quest to appease users familiar with other GUI environments,
who may never come to use Gnome. Just about everything in Gnome 1 that
I found useful was replaced by an inferior rewrite, became incompatible
with other software I use, or disappeared completely when I upgraded
to Gnome 2.
