Something else I've found since then: none of the readline key bindings
work. For example, ctrl-a to jump to the beginning of the typed line,
ctrl-e to jump to the end, ctrl-w to backspace over one word, ctrl-u to
erase from the cursor to the beginning, etc.
These were very handy editing keystrokes for making corrections and
typos, now they're all gone.
