Because you might want to copy the URL into a text file, another channel
window (to say, add it to banned-word list on an eggdrop), or an email
to someone.  Probably about 50% of the time I see a URL in a channel I'm
needing to do something other than spawn it to a browser.

...and notably, pasting to download with wget allows you to use the
--limit-rate option so if you're on a dialup your connection doesn't go
straight to lag hell because your browser always downloads as fast as it
possibly can.
