The biggest difference is the ability you would gain to control the
size of the widget, and the size and location of the buttons. You
would also be able to use arrowed buttons to scroll through the
available tabs (like GtkNotebooks), as opposed to using a scrollbar.
I'm sure all of the above could be implemented without creating a new
widget though. It was just a thought.
