You can also do this:
/set truncchans 10
(for example) - this commands abbreviates every channelname (and I think
servertab-names) on the tab so that it will take the maximum of 10
letters(or digits - or whatever - I am missing the correct english word
here). You can also try a lower number but setting it to 3 and below is
useless, since xchat always displays two dots to show that the name has ben
cut - and many tabs names "#.." are not really that helpful ;)

Documentation seems to be a general ssue with xchat. I suppose there are
quite some other things we really do not know much about. Reading all the
changelogs helps somewhat as you can pick informations like the one above
from them, but it's not really a good way to do find this out. *grin*
Oh - I also hate documentating (is this word correct) my own projects ;)
