Can no longer copy & paste

Hi All,

Environment:

    Sun Sparc Solaris 7 (patched)
    gcc 2.95.3
    X-Chat 1.8.9 built with --disable-nls --disable-gnome 
        --disable-python --enable-openssl

Just today I upgraded from 1.6.4 to 1.8.9 as a result of the "DNS
security hole."  Now I find I can no longer copy (and paste) out of the
conversation area.  I *can* copy out of the area where *I* type.  When
I try to mark text for copying out of the conversation area:

    . If I click-and-drag, as soon as I release the mouse button
      the high-lighting goes away.

    . If I double-click on a word, the highlighting just blinks
      and doesn't stay on.

If there's no solution to this, maybe somebody can tell me how to
manually eliminate the DNS exploit in 1.6.4 and I'll go back to using
that.  It never gave me any trouble.
