testing your own fserve?

hello!

does somebody know a way of testing your own fserve (obsidian 0.9+)? 
i tried this, but it doesn't work: just open xchat twice, in one i ran the fserve, in the other one (other nick too), i tried to connect to it. the fserve offers a chat, but this always fails with error code 22 (what's this?) at the client. the fserve itself doesn't error, but times out after a while.
