The poster was a bit ambiguous.

Click on IRC in the settings dialog, and at the bottom of the panel on the
right, there is a 'Timing' box that says 'Auto ReConnect Delay'. I have
mine on '0' seconds, and I always reconnect if I get knocked off IRC.
However, if you cannot connect the second time, xchat will try to
reconnect again and you will get z:lined for flooding VERY fast.

I would set it to 3-5 seconds personally. If you're not there, it doesn't
matter, really.
