xchat compilation problems on Sun Sparc

I'm trying to get xchat compiled on a Sun Solaris 2.8, installed on an Ultra 2.

However, I have run into a snag in the intl directory, where I get the following error:

Making all in intl
make: Fatal error in reader: Makefile, line 208: Badly formed macro assignment
Current working directory /usr/share/src/xchat-1.8.8/intl
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `all-recursive'
Current working directory /usr/share/src/xchat-1.8.8
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `all-recursive-am'

The section of code involved is:

# The dependency for intlh.inst is different in gettext and all other
# packages. Because we cannot you GNU make features we have to solve
# the problem while rewriting Makefile.in.
@GT_YES@intlh.inst: intlh.inst.in ../config.status
@GT_YES@        cd .. \
@GT_YES@        && CONFIG_FILES=$(subdir)/$@ CONFIG_HEADERS= \
@GT_YES@          $(SHELL) ./config.status
@GT_NO@.PHONY: intlh.inst
@GT_NO@intlh.inst:

If anyone has any idea as to how to fix this, I would appreciate their input.

Thanks,

Taren
