Unlike /who and /whois, /dns isn't an internal xchat command, and usually
doesn't even send anything to the IRC server. Xchat spawns an external
command when you issue /dns, and you can specify which one in your
preferences. The default is "host". Alternatives may be "nslookup" or
"resolveip". Look in Settings/Setup/IRC/External Programs.
