Transparency in KDE
Hau!
I contacted Peter, telling him that X-Chat can't get the KDE's WM wallpaper
for transparency effects... He never worked in KDE, so I got some information
about this.
Recently versions of KDE (2+) use a different method for putting wallpapers
on the user's desktop. A program named kdesktop fills up the root window
(where X-Chat tries to get the wallpaper), and setting the wallpapers, icons
and stuff inside the kdesktop, leaving the root window empty.
I contacted some developers of KDE, and they told me this:
"Try activating the option in "Configure Desktop" that is called "Support
Programs in Desktop Window" (and read the what's this for it), it might fixy
our problem. (Note: you need 2.2-beta1 for this)"
I didn't try it because I still use KDE 2.1.1, and the option is only avaible
in the 2.2-beta1 version. But I think that it sets the background in the root
window too.
So there's a sollution, but in a Beta that not everybody uses. Anyone here
knows a program that makes transparency effects (aterm?) on the KDE desktop?
The code might be useful for looking how it works.
