Just go into src/common and type "cat perl.c.patch | patch -p0" that 
should do it...

It shouldn't break compability with scripts, and the reason why
escape_quotes isn't used anymore is because it isn't needed with this
function since it doesn't use a tiny script as the last one...

Do you think the author of xchat can merge this patch into the 
sourcetree?
