Actually, the problem is with the language localization done by GNU gettext.
You're getting "no" there most likely because the configuration scripts can't
find some part of those tools. (If you check the generated Makefile, I think
it will say "no" instead of some command that should have been detected
during the configure process, before the Makefile was generated.) I have
gotten this before, and the quickest workaround was to add --disable-nls to
the configure options. You might be able to do a "better" fix by checking
into your locale settings (like $LANG or $LANGUAGE and friends), or figure
out why it's not finding what it needs to find.
