This is probably because xchat first tries to resolve the hostname, then
connects to the proxy and tells it to connect to an IP. However, this is
only necessary for socks4 if I remember correctly; socks5, HTTP and wingate
(telnet) proxies can do hostnames (I think). I'll try to make a patch for
this in a bit. Still, I recommend that you set up your linux box to use your
proxy's DNS proxy (it should have one), you might need DNS for other things.
