there's another bug related to this one (xtext), so maybe it's been fixed
already too. (if so, please ignore me :)

certain lines, for example some (all?) of the whois reply lines, but not
normal chat lines, cause xtext to mess up somewhat, when such a line has
the same length as the xtext widget is wide (i have indented nicks off). 
xtext then seems to think that the line is being wrapped into two lines,
but there's still actually only one line displayed.  the result is that the
whole xtext contents jump up and down one line, depending on wheather i
just select some text, or url highlighting is in effect or whatever.  and
when i'm at the end of the buffer, a blank line is displayed before the
bottom of the xtext widget.  however, as soon as this offending line is not
being displayed any more, everything will work again.

it's kinda hard to explain...  i've made a screen shot, which shows one
symptom of the bug (selection skipping one line, which is then displayed
twice).  i put it up at <http://members.aon.at/dfx/xchatbug.jpg>.
