My money goes on the missing colon, if anything -- according to the RFC, the 
PING and PONG messages *have* to operate without valid prefixes.

By the way, is there any reason xchat always lowercases the text of an 
incoming action? I've hunted around for the code that controls that, but 
haven't been able to find it.
