Natural Bleaching Alternatives to Hydroquinone
For those of you with concerns about the safety of hydroquinone use,
Super-Skin has come out with effective, hydroquinone-free bleaching
products, now available at SkinCareRx. These products use naturally derived
kojic acid and azelaic acid for their skin lightening abilities.
Kojic Acid
Kojic Acid is the most well known alternative to hydroquinone. It is also
the most effective of the hydroquinone alternatives. Derived from a variety
of different fungi and organic substances (such as soy and mushrooms), its
skin lightening benefits have been well established. However, Kojic Acid has
been known to cause contact allergies in a small number of people.
Azelaic Acid
Azelaic Acid is found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley. Recently approved
by the FDA for use in treating acne, azelaic acid has been found to have
skin lightening benefits as well - inhibiting tyrosinase activity in
overactive melanocytes.
Super-Skin's Lightening Gel and Skin Brightening Cream products utilize 8%
Azelaic Acid and 3% Kojic Acid (the highest we've found in a
non-prescription product) to even out skin tone naturally. Non-irritating
forms of glycolic acid and lactic acid, in lower concentrations, reduces the
chances of irritation for those with sensitive skin.
