Hi,

Although you modified QT to work with console (which looks very nice) - you
cannot release the modifications under LGPL as QT is GPL, and you cannot
release the modifications under a different licenses other then the original
license (in this case - GPL)..

You can ask the Trolltech guys about it...

Hetz

Incorrect. You can release the *modifications* (but not the aggregate
work of the original + modifications) under any licence, so long the
modifications' licence is compatible with the GPL. (The LGPL certainly
is... i.e. it's possible to satisfy the conditions of the GPL and LGPL
on the same piece of code at the same time).

Perhaps their motivation was to allow Trolltech customers (with
commercial licences) to be also able to use the console modifications.

IANAL.

Qt itself is licensed under the standard GNU General Public License,
not the GNU Lesser General Public License. Under the laws of most
jurisdictions, you have no right to license a derivative work of
a GPL'd work under anything but the GPL. You're going to jail.

Well, I won't argue as I myself am not a lawyer either, but if I were you I
would be really talking to trolltech and avoid any problems in the future -
just to see if it's ok with them, since they still the owners of QT..

Hi all!

Just want to let you know what a wonderful job you guys have done with QT-Console.
It downloads and installs just fine on Mac OS X/Darwin. You guys rock!

Will you quote me on your web page so I can be rich and famous, too?

Cheers!
Chris

Hey you(s),

I am going to hurt you, bad. I was all like "WOW!", and then it was more
"I'm going to find these people and hurt them in the head". You should
have taken up cpu time by making it do something else, it compiled way
too quick.

Once again, damn you, damn you straight to hades.

Hi guys,
I have wanted to have a full featured web browser for the console for a long
time.

I was thinking about trying to merge the javascript from mozilla into
lynx... but now if you guys have konqeror working, I might be able to use
my really old machine to view the new web pages!

I can't wait to try this, there are so many reasons to do that... not just
cause you can.. .but if that is why, it's good enough!

you got a pay pal account or similar?

Hi.

I saw your project page. I thought that maybe it would be better to
combine your efforts the Twin project: http://linuz.sns.it/~max/twin/

Have you ever considered working with him? If so, why don't you?

Sincerely, and with thanks,

Will,

Its a known problem. Its something with the calendar and hopefully it
will be fixed within a couple of hours. But thank you for telling.

Kind regards,
Hans

Hi:
Do some research, accessibility for visually impaired users is more than a
funny reason to make qt-console. It may be simply use qt-console recompiled
applications, or don't use them.

X does nto talk well if at all now. The steps for accessibility for
visually impaired X users are small, and the river to bridge is wide. If
Linux X based items ever want to become used on the desktops in the US
federal government, they will have to be accessible, which Linux X or any
other kind, is not now. so, hats off--I'll try and set this up now.

We didn't created Qt-Console for the greater good. We did it because we
can :)

Have fun trying it out :)

Subject: Announcing Immunix SnackGuard

New Product Release: SnackGuard
WireX Communications, Inc.
April 1, 2002

WireX is pleased to announce the latest addition to the Immunix family
of security tools: SnackGuard. SnackGuard effectively guards your
favorite snacks in the break room from "snack smashing" attacks: the
predations of other hungry engineers. This protection is especially
vital in these trying times of unemployment, when nomadic tribes of
hunter/gatherer geeks roam the halls of once mighty dot.com's in search
of food and caffeine.

Following on StackGuard's "canary" defense, SnackGuard employs WireX's
patent-pending "turkey" defense: when SnackGuard detects the "gobbling"
noise of some turkey scarfing down your favorite pop tarts and heavily
caffeinated beverages, it issues a pink slip, halting the gobbler.

While SnackGuard is effective in defending your snacks, it is not
without costs. SnackGuard increases run time when you are running to
catch the bus or the elevator, in that successful defense of your snacks

tends to increase "programmer's butt". Excessive consumption of
caffeinated beverages without intervening bathroom breaks may also
induce personal "buffer overflows".

While SnackGuard is "free speech", it is not "free beer": you may
modify and distribute this gag as you wish, but go buy your own
brewskis.

Crispin

I've been using Qt-Console since it's inception on April 1, 2002 and have
never looked back. I never thought it would be possible to bring Qt to the
console and finally do away with X, but you guys prove it's not only possible
and works, but is fast, stable and the best thing since sliced bread.

Before I use to browse using lynx, but now I can keep up with all my nerdy
friends who have the latest hardware with GeForce4 video cards and who browse
using the latest and most advanced browsers and software like konqueror and
kmail. You guys rock. I'm also so pleased that KDE4 will eventually
officially support Qt-Console.

I'm currently running KDE3 compiled with Qt-Console and I didn't have to
change a single line of code thanks to Qts amazing API which stays exactly
the same across multiple targets including Qt-Console. It'll breath new life
in to my old pentium computer at home. Well done guys ;)

Regards
John

Start X, open a terminal and type 'kmail'..

(And think about the message.. About the day of release.. About what
most people do that day..)

hi, i'm working on a project in my spare time to make a zaurus pda talk for
the blind, i have several questions.

1. would all the qt apps on the zaurus work with your product?

2. would your product be source compliant in such a way that i could modify
it to talk and make all the apps under it speak?

3. B.lind users are very demanding and will require much support so I want
to charge for support or code or something to cover the amount of time i'll
have to spend on this, what does the license allow for?

thanks very much.

Dear Robert,

I'm sorry that we gave you any false hope with this April Fools joke.
All the people behind this joke feel really bad about this situation.
Nothing can repair what we have done, we know that. We had a chat about
the situation and if have a link about your project for blind people or
know a good link about what non-blind people should know about
computing for blind people. This because we then place it as link of
the week on the Dutch Portal for Linux-users and hope that we can show
people what you're doing or what we should know about computing for
blind people.

I hope you can accept this, because we where not thinking about this.
And specially in a time that graphical user interfaces are placed on
every place possible.

I can tell you one thing and that is that I not really was thinking
about this situation until you sended your email. Your email made me
think and hopefully also other people.

Kind regards,
Hans Spaans

Welcome to this year's fourteenth issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter
for the Debian community. Since Monday was April 1st, here's Debian's
this year's April fools [1]prank, which was a lot funnier than last
year's joke. By the way, here are the pranks from [2]linux-kernel,
[3]Slashdot and [4]Dutch Qt bigots. [5]CPAN announced their shift
towards Java and [6]freashmeat.net turned green/white on black.

Serious comment ...

I vaguely remember reading that someone had done an AALIB backend for
XFree86.
If that exists, it would be a convenient and simple way to run QT at the
console.
Let's face it, some QTE systems have 160x160 pixels and a linux VT
console can
be put into a 50x80 mode which should permit AALIB to offer a 100x160
bitmap to X.

A friend has one of those printers that is actually a typewriter, so it
can use
correction tape to remove characters from the paper. An evil thought
occurs,
but I'd want to disable all the flashing cursor features before trying
to use QT.

Alex.

Luckily I read the it's a joke item before I downloaded......

It is interesting to note the large developer urge to go back to text
mode though :) Some of the Palm / PDA's with linux would be interesting
(note to self - need to buy A$900 hardware to run $100 2nd hand 386
apps......)
