Many valid points, but it's a choice between two bad guys: XSL or
Javascript. I am not so sure I like one better than the other. It must
be said though that there are free Javascript interpreters available,
which makes that bit a lot easier to implement (and yes, I was
designing mnemonic-oil-javascript in the shower this morning ;-) ).

ALL of the W3C recommendations are completely braindead and put
together by people with NO actual code to test their ideas. CSS, DOM,
MathML, XSL, they all make you want to cry if you actually start to
implement them. This is really very, very sad. Unfortunately, there is
not really a choice here, a small new browser like Mnemonic will have
to support all the crap that the big ones decide to implement.
