Why do I need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH when I have set in ld.so.conf:

/usr/local/bleeding-edge/mnemonic-raw/lib
/usr/local/bleeding-edge/mnemonic-raw/lib/msg
/usr/local/bleeding-edge/mnemonic-raw/lib/oil

It works when I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH, but not when I don't.
