I just picked up the latest files from ftp.gimp.org. The latest gtk is
970828 (so about two weeks old). I placed them on the Mnemonic ftp-site:
             ftp://oloon.student.utwente.nl/pub/Mnemonic/toolkit/

The files were indeed of zero length - as were they on the official Gimp
ftpsite. In the latest distribution (officially released) there are some
little notes. But nothing on compiling or something like that.
There is a mailinglist about gtk (at gtk-list@redhat.com). Maybe that could
be a source for more information.

: so... the reason why i am mentioning this is because gtk is nowhere
: near 100% portable. it compiled cleanly on my Linux system, but when

 : release), it fails miserably.
: i could probably invest a bit more time and figure it out, but the

: a lot of people in the same boat.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention :)
We'll discuss it during one of our regular IRC-meetings...
