I'd be very interested in such an option. I have done a fair bit of
plugin programming, and I'm sick of the number of bugs in the Navigator
as far as their plugin API is concerned. Moreover, they don't listen to
my bug reports. 

So if you want to work on this, I can try to help you to reverse engineer
the thing, though I won't have much time to do actual coding.
