Baseline Setup page
Following on from the recent thread, I'll put my bid in for a doc
defining a "baseline" system setup from which our performance tuning
tips can then work on.
What I envisage is saying the standard things like:
- separate swap partition, root/usr/log/etc partitions
- setting of swap size
- simple disk I/O (SCSI,IDE,IDE/ULTRA,RAID etc)
- PCI vs ISA
- RAM issues (parity/non-parity, EDO vs SD vs ...)
- not running unneeded services (inetd.conf setup, running X etc)
Any other ideas?
I can't start this until the weekend due to a software release on
Friday. This is just to let everyone know that it will be covered so you
can get working on the other stuff :)

"Look through the lens, and the light breaks down into many lights.
Turn it or move it, and a new set of arrangements appears... is it
a single light or many lights, lights that one must know how to
distinguish, recognise and appreciate? Is it one light with many
frames or one frame for many lights?" -Subcomandante Marcos
