"Crash" is probably not the right word. Here it is:
Error activating XKB configuration.
Probably internal X server problem.
X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
60801000
If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
Here it is:
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "xfree86", "pc104", "us,el", "xfree86,", ""
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xfree86", "pc104", "us,el", "xfree86", ""
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb
Here it is:
layouts = [us xfree86,el,ru]
model = pc104
overrideSettings = false
options = []

I found them under:
Main Menu -> Applications -> Settings -> Layouts -> Layout Options
I get a tabbed dialog box called "Keyboard Preferences."
I press 'Layouts.'
I select 'Greek' from 'Available Layouts', press the 'Add' button, then
'Close,' and I get the same XKB configuration error.
I press 'Layout Options.'
I get a list of 'Available options'
- Alt/Win key behavior
- CapsLock key behavior
- compose
- Control Key Position
- Group Shift/Lock behavior
- Miscellaneous compat...
- Third level choosers
- Use keyboard LED to ..
I'm looking for some shortcut which switches "keymaps", but find none... I try
to change something anyway, but get the same xkb configuration error.
[The 'Available Options' dialog box on the Fedora Core 3 GNOME desktop
indicates that "Both Alt keys together change group," (so, that's what a
"group" is) so I leave it alone, and it works (but there is no visual
indication of the current keymap, which would be helpful).]
