I can reproduce the problem. However, this has nothing to do at all with
slogin. The error occurs whenever the faulty line is redrawn due to
scrolling or covering the window.

Demo:

  - erase the screen with "clear" and then "cat" the file
  - it will look fine (if xterm didn't scroll)
  - move the scrollbar up and down such that the text disappears and
    reappears and the line will become distorted. 
  - repeat the operation but instead of scrolling iconize the xterm
    window to cause a redraw. Same effect.

Different places in xterm draw text when it is rendered the first time
and when it is redrawn (after exposure or scrolling). The second place
seems to still contain a bug. Robert?
