ISO i18n locales, charmaps, APIs etc

Dear Linux UTF9 group,

I would like to draw your attention to the i18n work done in the ISO
working group: ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG20 http://www.dkuug.dk/jtc1/sc22/wg20/

We have made a couple of standards including:
TR 11017: Framework for internationalization
This gives an overview of internationalization
as set out to be done by WG20
ISO/IEC 15897: The cultural register
This has POSIX locales and charmaps, that are being
          used in Linux today
          http://www.dkuug.dk/cultreg

We are working on a number new standards:
ISO/IEC 14651 - international ordering of 10646
gives a template table for all of 10646 characters
          in a POSIX like notation
ISO/IEC TR 14652: specifications for an POSIX compatible
          locale-like and charmap like enhancements
and a standard locale covering all of 10646
These formats are supported in glibc 2.2
ISO/IEC 15435: i18n APIs, with functionality like
C i18n plus enhancements, in at thread-safe way.
ISO/IEC TR 10176: Guidelines for the design of programming languages
including guidelines for i18n support, and a list of
          lettes etc recommended for identifiers.
ISO/IEC 15897: revision of the cultural registry, including
a second level registration for ordinary organizations.

Your group are very welcome to comment on this work, and to cooperate
with WG20. We are cooperation with X/Open, Unicode and the W3C
on these subjects.

Kind regards
Keld Simonsen
