I'm had some problems with Otfried's package, too.

I assume we're talking about the same thing; it's not really a patch,
because you don't modify existing files:

I tried various combinations of the recipes given on that page and in
the Unicode-HOWTO, but I never managed to get any Unicode fonts to
work.

I'm using Markus's ucs-fonts, but I'm not using his fonts.alias, which
means my situation is a bit different from what the instructions
assume, but surely there must be some way of getting Emacs to use the
*-iso10646-* fonts; my xterms are using them. Does anyone have any
other recipes I could try?
