Hmm. The default US keymap has Hex_A ... Hex_F on the keypad
on the keys NumLock, /, *, -, +, Enter, that is, on the six
keys around the digits, in natural order.
Does your keypad look different?
Or do you have a nonstandard us.map?

I have not seen Markus' standard yet, must reread that letter,
but everything here is configurable, you can have any key you like
as Unicode compose symbol. Nothing against Shift+RightCtrl
if people like that better than RightAlt.
Just load the appropriate keymap.
