You misunderstood my question.
I am strictly thinking in terms of kernel development.
There are no environment variables in the kernel, and no .Xdefaults file.
I want to plan a kernel interface.
Maybe you say that things are fine now and only this line editing patch
should be added. I seem to recall from two years ago that I encountered
lots of problems when I started using ISO-8859-2 in order to write some
Polish.
