Re: Advanced Run-Time Error Checking Tool
Dean,
The only commercial offering at this time is Insure++ from ParaSoft. I
have no experience with this product and can't comment on its
usefulness. ParaSoft do not supply evaluation licenses for Linux
because "we're the only suppliers of this sort of product for Linux".
If you can make sense of that approach you're smarter than I. I guess
you could get an eval license for Solaris.
Open source options are
1: Bruce Perens' ElectricFence which has very limited functionality.
2: GNU checker. Checker has all the functionality which you need, but
it's rather broken at present. I am working with the developer to get
checker working properly under Mandrake 6.0 (and, presumably, Redhat
6.x). The version at http://www.gnu.org/software/checker/checker.html
is old. You can pull the latest from CVS with
setenv CVSROOT :pserver:anoncvs@anoncvs.gnu.org:/gd/gnu/anoncvsroot
no password, repository: checker.
but I don't know if Tristan has integrated my patches yet.
What's your timeframe? If you can wait a week or two I'll pester
Tristan to get a new release out.
The open source world needs checker. Badly. Right now we're scratching
our heads over a couple of Rational's patents (stupid ones) which
checker probably infringes.
