http://distro.conectiva.com.br/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3007
Summary: userspace-accessible VM pressure indications
Product: Linux kernel MM
Version: 2.5 (beta)
Platform: All
URL:
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Status Whiteboard:
Keywords:
Resolution:
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: linux mm
AssignedTo: linux-mm-bugs@nl.linux.org
ReportedBy: rahul@rice.edu
We have /proc/loadavg for determining CPU load for userspace so why not /proc/vmload for determining VM pressure from userspace? It would greatly benefit garbage-collected systems, for example, so that they can be more aggressive about cleaning up garbage when there is more vm pressure, but can allow for better performance when vm pressure is low.
