I've run NetBSD for years, and I've never known this to happen. I'm
willing to believe it might have been true back around version 0.8 or
0.9, but certainly not recently. In any case, dumping to the correct
partition is not really a hard problem to solve, so it shouldn't stop
Linux from implementing it.
