well, there was a patch published, but I didn't see any comment on it by
the main kernel deveoplers.
the advantage of intel is that it is cheap, even if you get hardware
raid controllers and lots of ram. to get this stuff for alpha or sparc64
it gets really expensive, or impossible because the drivers are not
there yet.
