I had read "make it in time for 2.2" as "was complete but not
merged".  It will be a nice thing to have (although I'd rather
just buy an alpha or sparc64 :)

Indeed.  SCT's volume stuff for ext2 looks interesting.  I'd like to see
that completed and merged into 2.3..
