The point is someone at the data center cannot unplug the thing, pop the ha=

drives out and then return them two days later after making a mirror of the
thing like they did with the Indymedia servers that were stolen from
rackspace. See http://uk.indymedia.org/ if you have not heard.

At least when you get it back you only have to recreate your boot partition
from a trusted backup and trust the server again. Or let some judicial revi=

and are not in some gulag as is so common with our _in_justice system these
days). Also, if only the client had the keys, then it would leave the ISP o=

of the loop. And again, it would be possible to create a server with
ephemeral keys so that the data and the server is completely lost if powered
down.

I have not had time to work out this configuration with ssh yet. I think a
better solution is to offer remote console access via blade servers for
example, so that the client can have full control of the entire process
remotely and be completely responsible for the server at all times. Anyone =

I skipped the third step and directly tried the fourth
one and the message disappeared. However, I do not
really understand why. This option does not seem to be
in the README. I also noticed that the module was not
automatically intalled as usual, but stayed in the tmp
directory that the make process created.

Anyway - thanks for your help!

This problem is caused by CONFIG_MODVERSIONS=3Dy in your kernel config. ~=
 The

USE_KBUILD=3Dy make command line parameter partially works around this pr=
oblem
and patch below also changes Makefile to partially work around this probl=
em.

Best fix is to disable CONFIG_MODVERSIONS in kernel config. This is becau=
se
currently on 2.6 kernels module symbol versions only work for symbols tha=
t
are present in the main kernel source tree. When externally compiled loop
module exports symbols to other externally compiled loop cipher modules,
those exported symbols don't have proper versions and modprobe program fr=
om
module-init-tools package is not happy with that kind of symbols. This is
small regression in module-init-tools vs. modutils that were used on 2.4 =
and
older kernels.

yes, i've heard about this issue but i need to read on to get your point.

yes, one yould just re-image the hd with the trusted backup and it
probably saves install time.

i fail to parse your message here and hence fail to understand why it
should be necessary to encrypt the _operating system_ part of the hd:

handing over the keys for /usr/lib? sure, i'd hand them out ;-)

i doubt the ISP would be asked to make a copy of /sbin for the feds.

how is losing /etc going to help here? we have to set it up all again when
we get back the server. remember, i'm not speaking about *data* parts
here. losing parts of sensitive data (making it unrecoverable with
ephemeral keys could make sense if the worst case happens). i was speaking
about the *operating system* part.

already offered by many hosters.

thanks,

Alhaji Mohammed Abacha

2/8 Gidado Drive,GRA,

Kano - Nigeria.

Please as you read kindly open the website :- http://www.onlinenigeria.com/links/adv.asp?blurb=126.

. Please excuse my intrusion

into your private life as i write you this letter in

good faith and to the glory of almighty God who thus

brought me out clean after all the allegations

levelled against me after the death of my father

General Sani Abacha (former Nigerian military head of

states).my release from prison was necessitated by the

efforts of the senate president chief Anyim Pius Anyim

and the speaker of the lower house Alhaji Ghali

Na'abba.

Since my father's death and my detention for close to

three years, my family has been loosing a lot of money

due to vindictive government officials who are bent on

dealing with our family. after my release the federal

government of Nigeria has made me sign some documents

that will enable them extract the sum of one billion

five hundred million us dollars from my fathers bank

accounts in

London,Switzerland,Luxembiurg,Liechtenstein and Jesey

etc.

My family and i are looking for a trustworthy foreign

partner who can assist us by taking posession of the

total sum of us$25,000,000.00 ( twenty five million

united states dollars ), which the government did not

know about. because in their thinking they want to

leave only one hundred million to my family this money

is presently in the possession of a security company

abroad. this money was of course, acquired by my late

father and is now kept secretly by the family. the

swiss government has already frozen all other accounts

of my family in switzerland, and some other countries

also tried doing like wise. this bid by some

government officials to deal with this family has made

it necessary that i seek your assisitance in receiving

this money and in investing it on behalf of my family.

this must be a joint venture transaction and we must

all work together. since this money is still

cash, extra security measures have been taken to

protect it from theft or seizure. i have personally

worked out all modalities for the peaceful conclusion

of this transaction with the secuity company.

However, based on the grounds that you are willing to

work with me and also all contentious issues discussed

before the commencement of this transaction. you may

also discuss your percentage before we start to

work.As soon as i hear from you, i will give you all

necessary details as to how we intend to carry out the

whole transaction. Please, do not entertain any fears,

as all necessary modalities are in place, and i assure

you of all success and safety in this

transaction. Please, this transaction requires absolute

confidentiality and you would be expected to treat it

as such. if you are interested in assisting me please

send me your concent and telephone number.

Please, you may also ignore this letter and respect my

trust in you by not exposing this transaction, should

you not be interested.

I look forward to working with you.

Thank you

Mohammed Abacha.
