Thanks for pointing this out.  Indeed it appears it
would be wise to always pass the filesystem type to
mount either using -t or from /etc/fstab.

(Although, *touch wood*, mount seems to be very good
at guessing it's vfat if the (v)fat owner/group
options are set).
