Interaction between Kernel and Modules

Hi there,

I would like to know how the Linux Modules interact with the Linux Kernel.
What is the communication process, who are the different key players in this
process, and their specific role. 

(My question is mostly liked to data flow between for example the Ethernet
Module and the Kernel)
