Why use uuencode when input is though -p0 ?

Hi guys,

In the examples, uuencode seems to always be used when
creating a pass phase.

My question: is there any real reason the pass phase
needs to be uuencoded if losetup will have it piped in
with the -p option? 

I tried piping in raw output generated from
/dev/random and it seems to work. Just want to make
sure that does not some how weaken the encryption...
