The exact syntax was:

mount /dev/loop7 /vol

However, read-only mounting the file system produces
exactly the same results.

xfs_repair says on the unmountable file system:

...
Phase 2 - using internal log
        - zero log
XFS: Log inconsistent or not a log (last==0,
     first!=1)
XFS: empty log check failed
zero_log: cannot find log head/tail
          (xlog_find_tail=22), zeroing it anyway
...

After this the file system is mountable for
one time again.

In the meanwhile I restored a few gigabytes of
data onto the filesystem, now formatted with
reiserfs, remounted a few times, run reiserfsck
a few times. Currently the system is comparing
the integrity of the data. With reiserfs every
thing goes smoothly so far.

Regards,
Terje
