patch-int-2.4.0.2 and SMP

There appears to be a problem with compiling the crypto patch for an
SMP system. modprobe'ing a cipher module reliably locks up the system
(no oops). The sequence of commands:
# modprobe cryptoapi
# modprobe cipher-aes
is the simplest way to show this.

Compiling the same kernel, but with SMP disabled, does not exhibit this
problem. I haven't had any problems with the vanilla 2.4.0 kernel on
the same SMP (BP6 + dual Celeron) box.

Anybody else able to confirm this? I haven't started poking round to
see if I can see the problem. I haven't seen it happen with
2.2.18+crypto.
