Think of the Mosix concept "loosely" but on a potentially EXTREMELY large scale. The main push of "The Grid" is to allow "seamless" access to CPU cycles, regardless of location. This seems more like a distributed model, vs. clustered, as the the latencies across the internet preclude HP clustering. Grid software is gear toward locating hosts with free cycles to launch processes on, rather than say running an MPI app on 64,000 machines across the net. However, SGE does have the concept of parallel environments, which allows the running of mpi or pvm type applications. I am testing SGE out as a possible replacement to OpenPBS. It seems to be working pretty well. Very fast, no stability problems yet. However, I only have it running on 37 nodes. My goal short term is to test it on about 400 nodes, and about 800 nodes in early fall. So far it does everything I would need it to do if I move away from OpenPBS. My real concern is scalability and stability at large node counts for large numbers of jobs which I already know doesn't work very will with OpenPBS.
