I coulda sworn I saw that they had source code available for grid engine as well, as this weekend i was downloading stuff for
Solaris 8 x86 [which i run on one of my disks].

I did also take note that they are offering sources for Solaris 8, but I can't download it at the moment, as I don't have a fax
machine to return the form. Apparently the Solaris 8 sources are available for free, but you have to fax the damned form back for
download access.

Somewhere in my search for Sun free stuff for Solaris 8 over the weekend did turn up a Sun page saying Grid Engine sources were
available, as I recall tho. Sun really does need to redo their page so it's easier to find stuff. I'll backtrack and see if I can
come up with the page I saw it on.

In the SCYLD technology brief they say that
"Scyld shares its software innovations with the open source community
under the GNU General Public License (GPL)". Anyone know where to
obtain this (I looked at scyld.com and everything I found you had
to buy)?

It seems that Scyld hosts http://www.beowulf.org and this site has links
to software for downloading. Maybe this is what they are implying.

In ftp://ftp.scyld.com/pub/beowulf/ are SRPMS for all of the software
we've changed for our distribution. There are also some other
directories on the ftp site that contain tarballs of individual
programs, although the tarballs tend to be a little out of date.

Changes to signal handling in kernel 2.4 have caused some performance loss
on Pentium III+ processors. The kernel now saves and restores the SSE
registers on signals, which incurrs overhead. Congratulations, you have
found the one area in which performance has gone down from 2.2->2.4. This
is due to Intel, though, and not specific to Linux.

My guess is that this isn't the problem.

Floating point intensive code rarely does lots of signals - it mainly does
floating point ;-).

I'd suspect a compiler issue...
