Don, thanks for putting the CDs there!

Do you think it would make sence to publish diffs between different
versions? Maybe put the files in CVS? That could save bandwidth both
for you and people who benefit from your generosity.

Thanks for the email and the input. Any contributions,
whether intellectual, financial, or work are appreciated.

Try a 'diff' (unix/linux) or an 'fc' (windows) to see the
changes between this and prior version(s).

If you have any source code that reads these files
(especially C code, or C++ classes) I would apprecitate
the opportunity to put it online, and as well as use it.

I have Perl Code that reads them.

I a lot of ways the data formats and presumptions shown
are "mainframeish" and screwy IMHO.

My approach is to use Perl to parse the text files, something
it's VERY good at and stuff it into a database for real work.

My current job is parsing and quality assurance for this same
data as purchased from THE commercial dist. for this data and
build a datamart to build our "Data" products to update a wide
range of FMS systems.
I Won't say any more than that aside from the fact my current
"Real" is job doing this same kind of parsing on essentialy
the same data.

I should be able to avoid any conflicts of interest since
the source data is pretty much free from the feds and there
sure is no conflict as to the customers.

I think my perl code is kicking around someplace out there
in cyberspace and I learned a few things that should help
with the second version.

As soon as I can get some time and a functional broadband
connection at home I'll get something together.

Outside of financial :=) let me know what help you need.

What I was trying to save was the huge download. If you put the stuff
in CVS, users don't need to download the entire zip every time, just
the (relatively small) diffs. I applied for a SourcFeorge project to
store the files and provide automatic diffs. I would like to ask your
permission to use your archive in that project and to give you credit
for it on SF.

I'm working on code to transform ata-100 data into XML form. If the
work progresses beyond prototyping, I will publish it under GPL and the
data under FDL.
