Just a heads up in case anyone is interested - I've managed to put together
a 95% functional decoder for the NAPLPS format weather images you can
retrieve from DUATS.

At the moment, it doesn't quite handle arcs and circles properly (but the
maps don't appear to use those. And the text spacing is a bit screwy.

Right now, it takes the naplps source data and converts it to a postscript
output file. I was intending to have it convert to an intermediate format
and then have a set of different output modules - such as postscript, gif,
jpeg, svg, etc.

Anyway, if I'm motivated enough, I might try to package this up as a perl
module at some point.

Nathan -
I am very interested in getting this software -- I've nearly finished
nimbus, a clone of Cirrus for DUATS. One of the key things that is
missing, however, is image support. With your code as a reference, image
support should be a much smaller project.

Linux-aviation -
If anyone is interested in testing nimbus, and giving me suggestions,
please contact me.

Thanks,

Matt

Very cool, you bet I'd like to test it out.

Right now, the code is in the form of a perl script, but I'd be more than
happy to convert it to C and provide it to you as a subroutine that can be
called.

What's the licensing/toolkit/etc. you're using for nimbus?

Nathan,

Nimbus is GPL, and currently based on GTK+. After the first release, I'm
going to modularize the interface routines, and write a WxWindows
frontend, and possibly a QT frontend.

I'm interested in either the perl code, or converted C code -- as long as
I get something, I can get image support quickly :)
