There's a whole bunch of spamtraps, on the SMTP level we:
1) verify that mail to the sender address is accepted
2) the IP address sending the mail isn't on the SBL, CBL,
   DSBL or PSBL blocklists
3) the domain name of the sending address isn't in the
   dsn.rfc-ignorant.org or cart00ney.org blocklists
4) the email doesn't have any virus-like content types
   inside

If the mail makes it through that, we check the mail with
spamassassin and a set of about 6000 local regexps.

Only if the mail makes it through that is it allowed on
the mailing lists.
