Announce: FlightGear-0.9.2
FlightGear version 0.9.2 is now available for download from:
http://www.flightgear.org
FlightGear is a free, open-source flight simulator. The source code
is licensed under the GPL.
Note that there is a new 0.9.2 version of the base package that
corresponds with this new release. You must download this new base
package along with the 0.9.2 binaries/source code.
Prerequisites if building from source:
- You must have plib version 1.6.0 or newer (http://plib.sf.net)
installed before building both SimGear and FlightGear.
- You must have SimGear-0.3.3 (www.simgear.org) installed before
building FlightGear-0.9.2
A few of the highlights of this release are:
- New aircraft including:
- a P51-D with a full animated 3d cockpit
- a Sea Hawk (WV908) with beautifully animated landing gear
suspension
- a model of a research ornithopter (flapping wing aircraft) based
on 9Mb of high fidelity aero data taken from wind tunnel tests
and the real aircraft. The 3d model is animated and even shows
the wing flex as they flap. This is a lot more than just a
modified Cessna 172. A research group at UIUC actually modeled
real flapping physics.
- Many of the existing aircraft such as the 1903 Wright Flyer have
been improved.
- A brand new xml configurable GUI system that allows you to access
and configure many more things than previously, including weather
and various system and instrument failures.
- Updated navaid database from info taken directly from DAFIFT and
FAA sources.
- Many other bug fixes, code improvements, system modeling
improvements, tweaks, and realism enhancements.
