Re: Snapshot of US National Airspace Data CD-ROM
I didn't include the text, but here is what I would plan to
look into doing with the data..
I have a bunch of GPS rcvrs, they are dirt cheap and small.
I would like to build a system around them.
They are not whole navigation units, just the rcvrs, I'd like
to build a system to provide many of the same features of the
high end certified units, but also stuff like telephone numbers,
FBOs and a picture of what the layout of a given airport
should look like from my present location.
All that data necessary is there.
Last time I compresed these files down from the tapes themselves
they packed down over 90%
Some judicious processing could pack it down MUCH further by
encoding given fields and packed into Flash Memory.
I have a BUNCH of 8 Megabyte Modules to do this with.
Other stuff would be handy, like "List the frequencies of
all the Navaids I could reasonably expect to pick up from
my current location and alt."
Other stuff could be "Plan a flight from here to Miami and
make sure every every airport has either a GPS approach
or does not require a REAL DME"
Stuff like that.
