Christmas Wish Lists
With the holidays coming up, I thought it might be fun for people to
post thier Christmas "wish lists". No, I don't mean that new GPS unit or
whatever, I mean in terms of aviation software for Linux. I'll create a
new "Wanted Software" section in the next release of the Linux Aviation
HOWTO using the best responses. To start things off;
- Wanted: Hardware independent GPS interface software.
Details; The problem with existing GPS interface software is that
it usually is designed for units from a specific manufacturer.
The idea would be to develop a new software API layer for hiding
the details of the actual (proprietary) protocol being used. The
API would provide functions for uploading waypoints, routes, and
downloading of tracks, etc. A device independent user interface
could then be built on top of the API (much like what SANE does
for scanners).
